FIND THE BEST NARRATOR FOR YOUR AUDIOBOOK

3 Awesome Ways to Find Narrators for Your Audio-book

Once you have completed your incredible Audio-book and placed it into written form, you need to find a Narrator who will bring your story to life.  There is much to consider here and you want your product to be presented in the most professional way.  We’ve come across 3 Awesome ways to find Narrators for your Audio-book, including one that we have tried ourselves while creating our Triple Finale Sample Short Story Trilogies.

  • Freelance Services
  • Podcast Producers & Publishers
  • ACX

1) Freelance Services

By far, the most popular way to find a great Narrator for your Audio-book is to use Freelance Marketplaces such as Voices.com, Upwork, Fiverr, Guru or Findaway Voices. If you have not yet had an opportunity to use this type of platform, it’s a great option to consider because these platforms will allow you to pay by the hour or by the project.

With this option you have a selection of professionals that you can choose from, and you are able to hear samples of their work, which is helpful when you are deciding how you want your characters to sound.  Also, with this option, you can read reviews from other consumers like yourselves who will provide feedback on their experience working with the Narrator/ Voice-over Professional.

You should be prepared to conduct a short interview if you have specific requests for your short story that you want the Narrator to include such as adding sound to your story or how you would like each character’s voice to sound.

2) Podcast Producers & Publishers

I mentioned earlier that we have used one of these options for the Triple Finale Podcast and this is the option that worked best for us.  If you have a Publisher who helped you create your story, there is a chance that they have a network of professionals in their arsenal which might include Professional Narrators or Professional Voice-over Artists.  If this is the case, you should reach out directly to your Publisher to inquire about the cost.  Keep in mind, even if you go this route you still should do your due diligence by making sure that you connect with the individual to get samples of their work.

Hearing the voice is a critical part of the process. In your mind, you should have some idea of how you intended the voice for each character to sound as you were creating the story-line.  You want to shoot for someone who can re-create or come very close to re-creating the voices as your pictured them to sound.

Podcast Producers are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Narrators. They spend their time perfecting the audio for their customers.  This is the route that we took when we created the sample stories that you hear on our Triple Finale Podcast.

We built a relationship of trust with our Podcast Producers and they are able to weigh in on some of the projects that we have.  They have a list of Voice-over Professionals and each one brings a special element of expertise to the table.  The company that we use is Micme.  Their motto is “We want people to hear what you have to say and they have done an excellent job managing the Narration of each of our stories.

3) ACX

Amazon has a wonderful platform called ACX (Audiobook Creation Exchange).  This platform offers a plethora of options when it comes to Narrators.  Much like the Freelance Options listed above, you are able to sample the voices for each Narrator prior to moving forward, and you can get an idea of how much the project should cost.

You can also find other Authors to collaborate with, who do both writing and narration.

CONCLUSION:

Enjoy the process. Writing should be fun, exhilarating and fulfilling.  It’s such a fantastic feeling when the words flow out onto the screen and the stories began to write themselves.  Much like the flow of a great written story, when you connect with a fantastic Narrator, they will breathe life into your characters.

Be sure to listen to the entire story once they have completed the narration, in case you need to have them re-record any portion of the narrative. Adding in sounds or special effects can make the story sound realistic.  Set the stage that you want to use to transport your audience as they listen to your story, and don’t settle when it comes to selecting your Narrator.

We wish you all the best with your Triple Finale Trilogies!
